Exoplanets in the classroom

The participants in November's Physics Olympiad camp spent an astronomical evening studying exoplanets. Would you also like to take your students on a trip to space? Here you'll find materials and tips for your classroom.

With an inflatable planetarium in tow, the NCCR PlanetS and the Center for Space and Habitability at the University of Bern visited the Physics Olympiad camp in Reconvilier. You can read what the participants learned in two articles:

In this latest article, Physics Olympiad volunteer Jehan also explains how to demonstrate gravity and how to pass on knowledge about space with a table, a piece of cloth and a few balls.

In addition, the PlanetS website already offers a whole range of materials and advice for teachers:

  • universe@home: Multimedia offerings, DIY materials, downloads and more.
  • Educational material on the CHEOPS space telescope
  • Excursions to the Stellarium Gornergrat
  • Contacts for visits to institutes, information and more

In the future, the offers will be expanded to cover more topics in physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology and astronomy.
