What do umbrellas, mirages, and paramagnetic crystals have in common? All of these were topics of study during the second round of the Physics Olympiad, which took place on January 14.

The competition was held simultaneously at three locations: Bern, Lausanne, and Zurich. In Zurich, following the exam, participants had the chance to gain insight into current research through lab tours at UZH. Out of a total of 78 participants, the following 29 secured a spot in the final, including three from Liechtenstein:

In February, the young physicists will practice their experimental skills at EPFL before putting their abilities to the test at the final round in Aarau on March 7 and 8. There, they will have the chance to qualify for the European Physics Olympiad in Sweden or the International Physics Olympiad in Colombia.
