On January 15, the second round of the Physics Olympiad took place. The two-part theory test included calculating the properties of the Strépy-Thieu boat lift in Belgium and understanding how liquid crystal technology and voltmeters work.

The competition took place simultaneously in three locations, Bern, Lausanne, and Zurich. In Zurich, an excursion to the Urania observatory took place after the exam.

Of the 71 participants in total, the following 28 were able to secure a place in the final, including two from Liechtenstein.

In February, the young physicists will practice conducting experiments at EPFL before demonstrating their skills in the final round on March 15 and 16. There they will have the chance to qualify for the European Physics Olympiad in Bulgaria or the International Physics Olympiad in Paris.

106 participants took on the challenge of competing in the 2025 Olympiad in Informatics. From September 15 to November 30, 2024, they had time to solve tricky programming tasks online.
